Promises to focus on “America First”
Washington, DC: President Trump began his inauguration address by saying that the ceremony had very special meaning, “because today we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another, or from one party to another, but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the American people.” President Trump promised that the focus of his administration would be to make “America First… [Where] every decision on trade, on taxes, on immigration, on foreign affairs, will be made to benefit American workers and American families.” He promised to bring back Americans’ jobs, borders, and wealth by following “two simple rules: Buy American and hire American.” President Trump stated that the American people would “seek friendship and goodwill with the nations of the world, but… [Would] do so with the understanding that it is the right of all nations to put their own interests first.”

On the eve of his taking office, many Indian-Americans from across the United States showed their support for President Trump by celebrating the beginning of his presidency with the ‘Asian Pacific American Presidential Inaugural Gala 2017.’ Vinson Palathingal, a member of USINPAC said, “President Trump’s focus on lifting everyone, including “mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities” and also in addressing “crime and gangs and drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential,” are some of the issues that got him elected in the first place, and that’s what is going to help solve the racial problems in America. Trump’s pragmatic approaches will be a welcome change in Washington”.
