Washington D.C.:The Trump Administration has announced a new rule for the filing of H-1B visas. President Trump has said he wants to attract the best talent to the US and bring about changes in the process so that holders of H-1B visas can stay in the country and accelerate their path to citizenship, an issue USINPAC has pushed for years.
“This is a good day for us,” Sanjay Puri, Chairman of USINPAC said. “USINPAC has been pushing this issue since we came into being, and we have made step-by-step progress along the way for and on behalf of our IT professionals. These new changes will increase the chances for foreign workers with a master’s degree or higher to be selected in the H-1B lottery in years of excess demand. This is a win for US employers, too.”
After public feedback and beginning April 1, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will reverse the order by which it selects H-1B petitions under the regular H-1B regular cap and the advanced degree exemption. USCIS will first select H-1B petitions on behalf of all beneficiaries, including those that are eligible for the advanced degree exemption. USCIS will then select remaining petitions. The rule also introduces an electronic registration requirement. The changes are set to help the H-1B visa program work better.
