“Declare Pakistan A Terrorist State”: USINPAC

THE US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) has pledged to cooperate with the US Congress in declaring Pakistan the major source and terrorism in South Asia.Sanjay Puri, Chairman of USINPAC, has remarked: “USINPAC condemns the Uri army base attack and it will work with the US Congress to declare Pakistan a source and sponsor of terrorism in South Asia.”

“Early Sunday morning four heavily armed militants attacked an army base in Kashmir claiming the lives of 18 Indian soldiers and injuring several others. The attack, which took place at Uri near the line of control between India and Pakistan, in the Pakistani Occupied Kashmir, was the deadliest attack on an army base in Kashmir in more than 15 years. Kashmir Valley has been restive this summer since the Indian security forces killed Burhan Wani, a commander of Hizbul Mujahedeen, a pro-Pakistani terrorist organization”. Sanjay Puri said.

Prime Minister Modi, since coming to power and after several personal manoeuvres at peace building, has seen optimism fade, as Pakistan-based Islamists launched attacks on an Air Force base in Pathankot earlier this year. Rajnath Singh, India’s Home Minister responding to the attack said that the militants were “highly trained, heavily armed and specially equipped.” He expressed deep disappointment with ‘Pakistan’s continued and direct support to terrorism and terrorist groups.’ The Home Minister has cancelled his planned trip to Russia and the US and has been holding emergency meetings with top officials to make appropriate response to the planned attacks from across the LOC, Sanjay Puri said.

A press statement released by the US State Department has expressed ‘strong condemnation of the terrorist attack on an Indian army base in Kashmir during the early morning of September 18. John Kirby, Assistant Secretary and Department Spokesperson, Bureau of Public Affairs, has extended ‘condolences to the victims and their families and reiterated United States’ commitment ‘to our strong partnership with the Indian government to combat terrorism, ’USINPAC said.

The US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) is the voice of over 3.2 million Indian- Americans and works on issues that concern the community. It supports candidates for local, state and federal office and encourages political participation by the Indian- American community, Sanjay Puri added.
