USINPAC facilitates meetings between Indian Member of Parliament and US Congressmen

US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) organized and participated in meetings with Indian Member of Parliament, Dr. Udit Raj, and US Congressmen Ami Bera, Pete Olson, Eric Swalwell, Mike Honda, and  Ted Poe.  The purpose of these meetings was to explore and plan US-India collaboration in energy and smart city development.  Dr. Udit Raj and his US counterparts also shared good practices of their respective constituencies and potential investments in North West Delhi (Dr. Raj’s constituency) from the large Indian American communities in Texas and California.

Congressman Ami Bera, the only Indian American in the House, discussed about the tremendous potential for technology and renewable energy investment in India and invited Dr. Udit Raj to visit his constituency in California during his next trip to the US.  He was hopeful that the US and India could herald a new era in technology and energy trade.

Congressman Pete Olson explored the possibility of modeling smart cities in India after Houston, the energy capital of the world.  Noting that the large Indian community in Houston and Sugarland would strongly consider investments in India, Congressman Olson recommended that Dr.Raj visit his constituency to address the Indian Diaspora in Texas.

Congressman Ted Poe expressed keenness to visit Dr. Raj’s constituency in India and discussed education exchange programs between the US and India.  Congressmen Mike Honda and Eric Swalwell thanked USINPAC for successfully taking the initiative to connect leaders from the US and India to further US-India trade and diplomatic relations.  Dr. Udit Raj commented that he was extremely happy with the response from his US counterparts and was looking forward to working with them in the areas of energy and smart city development in India.

Robinder Sachdev, Director of USINPAC India Affairs and Rahul Srinivasan, Director of USINPAC’s Energy Initiative, expressed satisfaction with the meetings that are a stepping stone towards elevated engagement between the US and India.  Indian American community leader, Mr. Michael Thevar, commended USINPAC for taking the lead in strengthening US-India political and business ties.  He further pointed that discussions with Dr. Raj have further stoked the Indian American business community’s interest to invest in India.

Sanjay Puri, USINPAC Chairman, remarked, “As the largest and oldest democracies of the world, India and the US share many common values that make us responsible and reliable partners”.  As a next step, USINPAC will continue dialogue with US and Indian government leaders to execute action items that arose from the meetings on Capitol Hill.
