Discuss innovations in research and resource mobilization
Washington D.C.: USINPAC hosted a welcome reception for a delegation of visiting education experts from India this week. Attendees at the USINPAC reception included visiting academicians and media experts covering the education industry such as: Ms. Monika Bansal, Head of the Department of Management Studies, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, University of Delhi, Mr. Prashant Kumar Nanda, National Writer, Mint- Hindustan Times, Mr. Jinusha Panigrahi, Ph.D, Assistant Professor, Center for Policy Research in Higher Education, NUEPA, Ms. Summauli Pyne, Ph.D, Head of International Relations & Assistant Registrar: Students Affairs & Head, College of Management & NSS, Techno India Group, and prominent Indian Americans from the region, including Mr. Sanjay Puri, Lalitha Mani, Director of Operations, USINPAC, intern Angad Kanwal and Kiran R. Bhutani, Professor & Chair of the Department of Mathematics, The Catholic University, Washington, DC.
After a brief introduction of USINPAC and its significance in the progress of US-India bilateral relations, discussions centered around the state of education in India. Each academician detailed initiatives taken by their respective institutions, challenges faced and strategies on partnering with American educational institutes. The topic of funding for academic research, capacity building and encouraging second tier colleges generated much debate. Consensus was reached after a debate on funding social sciences and not just STEM education in university curricula. USINPAC also offered to facilitate exchange of students and teaching staff between Indian and American universities. A vibrant discussion focused on specific objectives that might be accomplished with the participation and support of USINPAC.
Sanjay Puri, Chairman, US India Political Action Committee, said, “There is a lot of innovation and research happening in science and technology in the US. India too can attract innovation and talent with appropriate funding and capacity building. USINPAC will continue to foster US-India partnership, in harnessing this potential and will support all bilateral partnerships to achieve this goal.”
