May 10, 2012, Washington D.C.: The U.S. India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) regrets Indiana senator Richard Lugar’s loss in the primary senate elections in his state. Lugar was a known friend of India in the U.S. Congress.
Lugar’s loss to Indiana state treasurer Richard Mourdock ended a career spanning more than three and half decades. Speaking on Mr. Lugar, Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.), Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee said, “His wisdom and patience were invaluable in laying out the case, particularly in building support across the aisle so that we could find the path to 71 votes.”
Commenting over the loss, USINPAC Chairman Mr. Sanjay Puri said, “Sen. Richard Lugar’s loss in primary elections is very much regrettable. Mr. Lugar’s understanding of foreign relations and understanding of the U.S. India relationships is very well recognized and appreciated by Republicans and Democrats.”
