Reception focuses on space exploration and scientific cooperation
USINPAC hosted a reception for a team of space technology experts from India that visited Washington, D.C. to forge links between U.S. and Indian scientists, engineers, and public policy makers. The delegation is visiting several U.S. cities to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the area of space sensors, next generation satellites, etc. The delegation will also examine the role of non-government research institutions in advancing space science and the benefits of increased cooperation between U.S. and Indian academic institutions and government space agencies.
Reception attendees included Mr. Kumar Abhijeet, Assistant Professor, National Law School of India University; Dr. Josia Joseph, Scientist, National Institute of Ocean Technology; Prof. Nandan Kumar Sinha, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras; Ms. Deepa Balakrishnan, Chief of Bureau, CNN News 18 Bengaluru; Dr. Krishnan Sundara Rajan, Associate Professor – Lab for Spatial Informatics International Institute of Information Technology, IIIT Hyderabad; Mr. Srinivas Raghotham, Assistant Editor, Deccan Herald; IIT Madras Dept. of Aerospace Engineering; and prominent Indian Americans from the surrounding region.
Mr. Sanjay Puri, Chairman of USINPAC, spoke about the mission of USINPAC in supporting bilateral ties between the United States and India, and acknowledged the history of exploration between NASA and ISRO from sounding rocket missions to Mars collaboration. Experts lauded India’s stature as a leader in space exploration in both academic and commercial sectors. Experts agreed that despite the impressive achievements based on cost- effective endeavors, there is still tremendous room to develop in the field of data dissemination, weather forecasting, integrating information from space, air, land, and sea that can benefit transportation, agriculture and renewable energy sectors. Bolstering bilateral cooperation in order to fully utilize the potential of academia and industry was also discussed.
Recalling USINPAC’s contribution to the US-India nuclear deal, Mr. Puri reiterated that USINPAC is “committed to furthering U.S.-India space cooperation and the exploration of the deepest oceans to the far corners of our solar system and beyond. USINPAC is a proud supporter of the robust U.S.-India civil space program which is founded on space diplomacy, scientific collaboration, and exploration of our planet and universe.”
