Releases Position Paper on US National Security & US-India Strategic Relations
Washington DC, November 24, 2009. This week, President Barack Obama will welcome Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, to the White House for the first state visit of his presidency. That this honor is being given to Dr Singh highlights the growing strategic importance of India to the United States. India, in fact, will play a critical role in those parts of the world that pose the greatest near and long term security challenges to America. Given this, we believe that Indian Americans and USINPAC bring a unique perspective to the national security policy debates in Washington D.C.
As part of our ongoing efforts to contribute to the future of the US, USINPAC has organized a dedicated National Security Committee to work for ever closer US-India ties. To mark Dr. Singh's visit to the United States, this Committee is releasing a USINPAC position paper on US National Security & US-India Strategic Relations. It represents our view on the long term challenges to the security of the US and our belief in the centrality of strong US-India relations in meeting them. We therefore advocate that the US establish a "special relationship" with India as it has done with other liberal democracies such as Britain, Australia and Japan.
