USINPAC has established itself as a key organization supporting candidates running for various political offices through its connections in the Indian American as well as the mainstream community and at various levels of government in Washington, D.C. It acts as a mentor for new and aspiring politicians through building on past successes in the Indian American Community. I am proud to be associated with it from the beginning.
Upendra Chivukula is currently Deputy Speaker, New Jersey Assembly and also a former Mayor of Franklin Township. As an Assemblyman, he serves as the Chairman of the Telecommunications and Utilities Committee, and a member of the Appropriations Committee. He is also a member of the NJ Commission on Science and Technology, and Asian American Study Foundation. He is the founder of the legislative caucus on Science and Technology as well as the legislative caucus on World Languages and International Education. He also served on Transportation and Public Works Committee, Commerce and Economic Development and Environment and Solid Waste Committees.At the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), he is on the Executive Committee and is the past chairman of Communications, Interstate Commerce, and Technology Committee and a member of the Energy and Utilities Committee and Homeland Security Task Force, Immigration Task Force, and Military Sustainability Task Force.He is a Leadership New Jersey Fellow, Flemming Institute Fellow and is also Fannie Mae Fellow. He received leadership training John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and Darden School of Management, University of Virginia.He served on many community organizations, such as Franklin Township Lions Club and Association of Indians in America. He is the Past President of the Asian American Political Coalition. He served on many township boards.He has a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the City College of CUNY, New York, NY.
