February 10, Washington D.C.: The US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) appreciates Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen’s recent remarks on Indo-US relationship. Rep. She said, “The US-India alliance has never been more important than it is right now.  The partnership between our two nations is critical in combating extremists, protecting our fragile gains in Afghanistan, ensuring peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region, and building an agenda for shared prosperity.

“I look forward to discussing progress in the US-India partnership and Strategic Dialogue, developments in the Middle East and South Asia, the challenge of a rising China, and prospects for meaningful change in Burma.  I also will raise the Iran issue, and the need for responsible nations to work together to further isolate and pressure the dangerous extremists in Tehran.”

Mr. Sanjay Puri, Chairman, USINPAC while indicating the remarks as a progressive and positive one said, “The US-India relationship has been looked upon by many as the alliance of the century. Rep. Ros-Lehtinen’s comments highlight why there is a need for the two great nations to work together.”

February 6, Washington D.C.: The US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) welcomes the United States’ proposal to bring in changes to the H1-B and F1-B visas. The proposal promises to attract and retain highly skilled foreign skilled workforce to a greater extent.

Mr. Sanjay Puri, Chairman, USINPAC welcomed the decision stating, “America is a land of opportunity where a Google, Hotmail and Intel have been founded by immigrants. In order to make sure the future Sergei Brins are located in the US skilled visa overhaul is necessary and this is a step in the right direction.”

It may be noted that previously President Obama had previously expedited visa and foreign visitor processing and travel promotion to the U.S. The decision is aimed at increasing economic growth while ensuring national security. The United States welcomes over 60 million visitors who spend over $134 billion annually.

USINPAC further urges President Obama to create tourism czar in the cabinet given its economic and national security importance.

Respecting religious sentiments is not political correctness but human correctness

January 24, Washington D.C.: The US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) condemns the remarks by US TV host Jay Leno about the holy Golden Temple. In his latest episode, “The Tonight Show”, Mr. Leno had made a joke on the holiest shrine for Sikhs, by saying that it was a summer home for wealthy presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

Expressing regret at the comments, USINPAC Chairman Mr. Sanjay Puri said, “Humor is a very important aspect of our society, but sensitivity to all religions is part of our national fabric. Standing up for religious sentiments of a community is not political correctness but human correctness. Golden Temple is the holiest shrine for Sikhs and jokes about it are very offensive to the Sikh community.”

It may be noted that earlier Kentucky gubernatorial candidate David Williams had also made similar comments about Governor Steve Beshear’s participation in a Hindu groundbreaking ceremony.
