November 3, 2010, Washington, D.C: USINPAC congratulates Nikki Haley on her landmark victory as South Carolina Governor on Tuesday. Haley defeated the Democrat nominee, Vincent Sheheen, to become the first female Governor and first racial minority Governor of South Carolina.

Nikki Haley’s win is another boost to the forward march of the Indian-American community in American politics seen during this election season. USINPAC has strongly supported Nikki Haley’s candidature and had previously also supported Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal’s election. Sanjay Puri, USINPAC Chairman, congratulated Nikki Haley and said, “Nikki Haley’s victory is not just a historic moment for Indian-Americans, but also for South Carolina, as it elects its first woman Governor to office. Haley has worked hard as a state legislator to fight wasteful spending, create jobs and increase the overall quality of life for the people of South Carolina. I am sure she will also prove to be an exemplary Governor.”
