Washington, D.C. - USINPAC Leadership Committee member Shri Thanedar, Ph.D., has been awarded the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 in the Central Midwest Region. Dr. Thanedar, who founded the St. Louis, Missouri-based Chemir Group of Companies in 1990, was recognized for the award in the technology division by a distinguished panel that included area leaders in business, academics and civic organizations.

As a regional winner, Dr. Thanedar will now vie for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 national program, to be announced in November 2007.

Like most businessmen, Dr Thanedar started small by acquiring a 2-chemist analytical laboratory, with annual sales of $150,000 in 1990. This year, his company has eight divisions and over 250 employees, including 60 Ph.D. level chemists. The group's total sales are expected to reach $36 million in 2007, with an anticipated goal of $60 million by 2009.

USINPAC Chairman Sanjay Puri said: "We are proud of Dr. Thanedar's achievements. USINPAC has consistently worked with and supported this supremely talented chemist and entrepreneur on issues concerning the Indian American community. We congratulate Dr. Thanedar, and hope that his achievement will serve as a benchmark for the rest of the community."

Dr. Thanedar said: "I'm honored to be part of this year's list of distinguished winners, and to be selected for this prestigious award. It recognizes the intense work put in by my colleagues at Chemir, and will only spur all of us to aim higher."

He added: "I really appreciate all the support USINPAC has given me. I have been working with USINPAC for some time now, and I am impressed with its vision, its commitment and its outreach at Capitol Hill. It has single-handedly kept the Indian American community closely connected with the nation's lawmakers."
