USINPAC Engages with Ted Cruz’s Campaign for 2016 Elections

Part of USINPAC Presidential Dialogue Series

Washington, DC: Thick in the middle of US Presidential primaries, The US-India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) continued hosting interactive Presidential Dialogue series with Democratic and Republican Presidential campaigns to engage and discuss issues important to the Indian American community.  In its latest series USINPAC hosted a live Google Hangout, on February 16th, 2016 with the Presidential Campaign of Senator Ted Cruz, represented by Mr. Chris Wilson, Director of Research, Analytics & Digital Strategy.

The Google Hangout was attended by several Indian Americans who quizzed Mr. Wilson on issues pertaining to US-India Relations, Immigration, Terrorism and domestic issues like Education and the economy.

Some key excerpts from Ted Cruz’s campaign are below:

US-India relations: In 2014, on being elected the Indian Prime Minister, Senator Cruz had congratulated Narendra Modi, hailing him as ‘India’s New Hope and Inspiration’. India is a very important ally to the US in the fight against terrorism. For the US to regain its point of strength in the world, will have to rebuild relations with all allies and India would feature at the top under a Cruz administration.

Immigration: Sen. Cruz is very appreciative of how technology impacts our lives, supports ‘disruptive technology’ like Uber, Air BnB etc., which began as small businesses and grew into multi-billion dollar companies but Cruz is not beholden to special interest groups. Cruz’s campaign is very technologically savvy and appreciates the Indian American creativity in this sector.

Education: Sen. Cruz would repeal the Common Core, reform the education system, take control from the federal level and return it to local school boards and to parents, utilize alternative forms of education like the Khan Academy.

A Cruz presidency would emulate President Reagan, appoint a Justice aligned to Antonin Scalia’s views, rebuild the military, support our allies, would be open to ideas, proposals and small businesses and not capitulate to special interest groups and level the playing field for all.

Sanjay Puri, Chairman of USINPAC, remarked, “Today’s Presidential Dialogue Series with Cruz’s campaign was very interactive, we discussed issues like foreign policy, technology, immigration and the economy. We conveyed our concern regarding the sale of F-16s to Pakistan, despite its duplicitous record on supporting terroristic acts against US troops in Afghanistan and against India. We also spoke about the tremendous talent within the Indian American community, and expressed our support for Justice Sri Srinivasan, a possible nominee for the current vacancy in the US Supreme Court.”

As a part of the Presidential Dialogue Series, USINPAC will also release whitepapers on each Presidential candidate, detailing their record and stances on various issues important to the Indian-American community.  USINPAC also facilitates direct interaction with Republican and Democratic candidates by assisting community members to volunteer with their campaigns.
