While negotiating on the Bilateral Totalisation Agreement (BTA), India has urged the U.S. to do away with the social security tax for the Indians in the U.S. from payment of security taxes to mitigate the impact of a visa fee hike last year. Under this agreement, the professionals in both the countries would be exempt from paying security taxes when they go to other country for a short term period. With the hike in the visa fee, this is indeed a welcome move.
