In what is apparently the first incidence of a senior U.S. envoy losing his job as a result of the notoriously famous WikiLeaks, after a brief stint of serving as U.S. ambassador to Mexico for 19 months, Carlos Pascual has quit from the diplomatic post.
The resignation comes after the U.S. diplomatic cables’ publication became a media sensation, exposing the criticism of the Mexican government’s fight against drugs.

Although analysts opine that the opinions expressed by Pascual and other U.S. diplomats in the classified documents aren’t actually a shocking revelation for those who are familiar with the anti-drug fight in Mexico, the criticism by a close ally has greatly infuriated the Mexican president, so much so that Calderon not only publicly criticized Pascual but also avowed he would discuss the issue with President Obama in a meeting scheduled to be held on March 3.
