Aneesh Chopra - Secretary of Technology for Commonwealth of Virginia

Bio

Aneesh Chopra is Virginia's fourth Secretary of Technology. He was appointed by Governor Tim Kaine. As Secretary, he leads the Commonwealth's strategy to effectively leverage technology in government reform, promotes Virginia's innovation agenda, and fosters technology related economic development with special emphasis on entrepreneurship. He currently serves as Chair of the Information Technology Investment Board’s Commonwealth IT Solutions Committee.

Prior to joining Governor Kaine's cabinet, Secretary Chopra served as Managing Director of the Advisory Board Company (NASD: ABCO), a for-profit think tank that provides strategic research to more than 2,500 hospitals and health systems. In that capacity, he led the firm's Financial Leadership Council and the Working Council for Health Plan Executives with membership programs serving more than 500 healthcare executives.

During his eight-year tenure with the Advisory Board, he led 10 national research studies on innovative physician partnerships, improvements in labor productivity, and lessons on payment reform. In addition to his research duties, he advised the launch of True North, a chief information officer membership program, and the firm's first technology-based service, Compass, a revenue cycle "business intelligence" platform.

Secretary Chopra was appointed by former Governor Mark Warner to Virginia's Board of Medical Assistance Services. Governor Warner also appointed him to the Electronic Health Records Task Force, which included Virginia's leading hospitals, insurers, and physicians. Secretary Chopra served as Co-President of Washington, D.C., chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs, an organization committed to fostering innovation.
