Manan Trivedi (D), Pennsylvania, U.S. House of Representatives, 6th District, 2010 Candidate

"USINPAC is an important ally in my campaign for Congress because it represents the bipartisan Indian American community with wide-ranging interests that impact domestic and foreign policy. USINPAC is essential in providing policy, strategic and financial support to Indian American candidates like me. As a physician and an Iraq War veteran with deep roots in my Pennsylvania district, I am running a strong local campaign, but USINPAC gives me the ability to generate have a national reach across the Indian American community. "

Bio

Dr. Manan Trivedi is a primary care physician at Reading Hospital in Pennsylvania, board certified in internal medicine. He recently retired as a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy. Recently, Dr. Trivedi was a Healthcare Advisor to the Obama for America Campaign. If elected, he intends to work for quality affordable healthcare for every American and to support legislation that leaves healthcare decisions to the patients and the doctors. Dr. Trivedi would take a comprehensive approach to education that is based on strong research and brings all key parties to the table to reverse falling high school completion rates. He would also fund and support innovative energy projects, support energy efficient initiatives, modernize the electrical grid and improve access to public transportation.

Manan graduated from Fleetwood High School and went on to college and medical school before embarking on a Naval career that took him to the frontlines of the war in Iraq commanding a medical team that cared for over 1200 troops and Iraqi civilians. He is a decorated Iraq war veteran who served as the Battalion Surgeon for a Marine Corps Infantry Battalion in the 5th Regiment. After his service in Iraq, he received a Masters degree in Health Policy. He drew on his experience with combat to investigate the unique mental health issues affecting the troops returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. He later went on to serve as health policy advisor to the Navy Surgeon General and was an Assistant professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences.

Manan was born and raised with his brother in Fleetwood, Berks County. His passion for community service began at an early age and he launched a healthy eating initiative as a young boy. He was also engaged in community service where he worked with HIV/AIDS patients. As a physician, he treated the poor and uninsured in the inner city. Manan met his wife Surekha when they were in college together. They live in Reading where they enjoy outdoor activities and are avid Philadelphia sports fans.
