R.K. Sandill – “Ravi” to friends and family – is a candidate for the Harris County 127th Civil District Court. Ravi wants to carry on his family’s commitment to public service and put his professional and life experience to work serving the people of Harris County.
Ravi is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Houston Law Center, where he was a member of the Houston Journal of International Law. He and his wife Kelly, also an attorney, reside in Houston and recently adopted their first son, Asher.
Ravi is an associate attorney with Steele Sturm, PLLC in Houston, where he focuses on labor and employment law, as well as commercial and appellate litigation. Prior to joining Steele Sturm, Ravi practiced with several other Houston firms and served as a briefing attorney to Justice Murry Cohen of the Texas First Court of Appeals.
Public service has long been at the center of the Sandill family. Ravi’s father, an active duty member of the U.S. military, has served for the last 24 years – first in the Army and now in the Air Force – and deployed to Iraq in September 2007. Ravi shares his family’s commitment to service. He worked for Senator John Kerry and served in the Clinton administration as a member of the President’s and the First Lady’s Advance Teams. He also interned for the White House’s Council of Economic Advisors. Ravi actively serves his community through the Board of Trustees and the Advocacy Committee of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society and as a member of both the American and Houston Bar Associations.
Growing up in a military family, Ravi lived all over Texas and the world and was exposed to people from varied backgrounds and all walks of life. At the age of 26, Ravi was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease, a form of lymphoma. He went through chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant and has been in remission for several years. These experiences taught Ravi the importance of treating every person with dignity and respect. He will be a fair-minded, equitable judge for the people of Harris County.
