Bobby Jindal - (R), Louisiana, Governor
“USINPAC is a very important bridge between the US Congress and the Indian-American community. Their work on and access to The Hill has had an impact on several issues that are important to the community. I look forward to working with USINPAC.”

Bio

Bobby Jindal is Governor of Louisiana, sworn in on January 14, 2008 after wining the primary in October 2007. Governor Jindal successfully passed ethics reform measures at a Special Session of the Legislature placing the state on par with having one of the nation’s the best disclosure laws. Additionally, the Governor's second Special Session eliminated burdensome taxes that deterred investment in Louisiana and limited the growth of existing Louisiana businesses. Governor Jindal has put forth detailed plans for reforming the state's health care, education, and transportation systems, as well as for encouraging workforce development and continuing recovery efforts in areas devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and Hurricanes Gustav and Ike. He has also toughened laws against those who hurt children and strengthened the State Police by increasing funding and the number of troopers.

Bobby was born in Baton Rouge on June 10, 1971. He graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1988 and went on to attend Brown University where he graduated with honors in biology and public policy. Following his graduation, he attended Oxford University in England as a Rhodes Scholar, and in 1994, went to work for McKinsey and Company as a consultant for Fortune 50 companies before entering public service. In 1996, he was appointed Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) where he turned a budget deficit of $400 million into a surplus of $220 million over three years. In 1998, Bobby was appointed Executive Director of the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare and made recommendations on improving Medicare. In 2001, he was confirmed as the Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). In 2004, Bobby was elected as Congressman to the First Congressional District in Louisiana and reelected in 2006.

Jindal and his wife Supriya have three young children.
