Former four-term Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson comes from humble beginnings. Born in a small Wisconsin town, Governor Thompson's father ran a gas station and a grocery store. His mother was a school teacher. As a 25-year-old, he became a representative in the Wisconsin State Assembly. In February 2001, he became the seventh US Secretary for Health and Human Services. He has an active private sector career, and is the current president of Logistics Health, Inc. He is also a senior partner at Akin Gump, a Washington-based law firm.
