A Profile
Former North Carolina senator John Edwards was one of the first to announce his candidacy for the 2008 presidential election. Mr. Edwards was Sen. John Kerry's vice-presidential running mate from the Democratic Party in the 2004 presidential election, and rose to national prominence during that time for his honest and forthright views on various issues despite an apparent lack of political experience. After the loss of the Kerry-Edwards partnership, Mr. Edwards set up a political action committee called the One America Committee, and was appointed director of the Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity at the University of North Carolina Law School. Prior to his political career, Mr Edwards was one of the country's most well known trial lawyers.
